How to cancel your TV fees

Share
If you've arrived directly at this post and you are interested in moving to Italy as self-employed, I strongly suggest that you return to the main blog page and start from the beginning (the introduction post).

Italy imposes a TV fee (at the moment it’s 18 euros per month) for everyone who owns a TV set in his house.

You will see that fee in your electricity bill under the item “Canone RAI”.

If you don’t have a TV set, you can cancel it. (There are also a few other reasons that allow you to do so but we won’t get into that here).

To do so, you need to log in using SPID to the tax agency’s website
https://telematici.agenziaentrate.gov.it

Once that’s done you can go to Servizi, then expand “Istanze, Comunicazioni e certificati” and choose “Dichiarazione sostitutiva relativa al canone TV per uso privato addebitato nella bolletta elettrica”

There you’ll be able to send a new request by:
1. Select “Invio dichiarazione”
2. Select “Quadro A” and click “Inizia”
3. Confirm your codice fiscale displayed is correct and click “Avanti”
4, Select the first checkbox that says: “Dichiara che in nessuna delle abitazioni per le quali è titolare di utenza elettrica è detenuto un apparecchio tv da parte di alcun componente della famiglia anagrafica” and click “Avanti”
5. You can then see the PDF of the declaration that will be sent and click “Invia” to submit the request.

Every 2 years this process needs to be repeated.
If you’ve already payed this tax for many months while you don’t have a TV you can ask for reimbursement. It will be applied in your electricity bill once it’s approved.
To do that, in the “Servizi” section, expand “Rimborsi”, select “Rimborso del canone di abbonamento alla televisione per uso privato” and then select “Invio richiesta di rimborso” and start filling-in the details from your previous electricity bills.
